Dambusters Motorcycle Ride 2012 is delighted to announce that we have our first sponsor on board!! Guess what - it is the real Dambusters!! 617 Squadron, RAF. We are now in daily contact with the Squadron and, subject to the difficulties of email from Afghanistan will be staying in touch for the duration of their tour in Afghanistan. My thanks to Dianne McCleish, the Regional Help for Heroes Co-ordinator for setting this up!!

So what is the Dambusters Motorcycle Ride 2012?

Help for Heroes Event No. 30111121-4114-8173. Dambusters Motorcycle Ride 2012

The Dambusters 2012 Motorcycle Ride takes place on the 16th & 17th May 2012, the 69th anniversary of the actual Dambusters Raid in May 1943 to raise money for Help for Heroes. The ride will follow the route flown by 617 Sqdn Lancaster AJ – J on the raid itself. At 00.19am on the 17th the team will drop a wreath onto the water of the Mohne Dam to remember all those who lost their life as a result of the Dam’s Raid and then return via the John Frost Bridge so famously held by the Para’s at Arnhem, the ‘Bridge too Far’. The event will finish, as did the original Dambusters raid, at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire.

The outstanding work carried out by Help for Heroes is well known. Over the last few years ‘Help for Heroes’ has paid out more than £100 million to provide support and rehabilitation services for our troops who have been wounded or injured whilst serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. Please visit http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk and see exactly how the money raised helps our wounded service men and women every day that turns over. However, despite the significant success already delivered, the work of Help for Heroes remains vital as our service men and women come into harms way on our behalf every single day. It is only through the efforts of fund-raising events like the Dambusters 2012 Motorcycle Ride that the crucial work rehabilitating our disabled service men and women paid for by ‘Help for Heroes’ is able to continue.

And so it begins!

Welcome to the Dambusters Motorcycle Ride Blog. On these pages we will track the progress and fund-raising as this event moves ahead and hopefully raises shed loads of cash for Help for Heroes. http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/
